Bedstraw and Agrimony

Date: August 9, 1998
Location: KC Trail and Brickyard Trail, Amherst, Mass.
Flowers seen: Agrimony (Agrimonia gryposepala);
Bedstraw (Galium asprelum);
Birdsfoot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus);
Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia serotina);
Goldenrod (Solidago);
Groundnut (Apios americana);
Jewelweed (Impatiens capensis);
Queen Anne's Lace (Daucus Carota);
Round-headed bush clover (Lespedeza capitata);
Showy Tick Trefoil (Desmodium Canadense);
Virgin's bower (Clematis virgiana);
Notes: Dry conditions seem to be holding back flower growth.  Variety of bedstraw may be rough? (the stems were sticky).  I'm not yet up to the task of separating the goldenrods.

Apios americana Groundnut (Apios americana).  I found it entwined around a clump of virgin's bower.   Scent was sweet and strong.
Clematis virginiana Virgin's bower (Clematis virgiana).  Saw 3 clumps of it along the north side of the KC Trail leading to the Bike Path.
Unkown Round-headed bush clover (Lespedeza capitata).  I was at first unsure what this tall plant was, but later found it identified in the guide books.  The old brickyard is full of them.
