Elizabeth Farnsworth will be June 8 Song & Story Swap guest

Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the June Pioneer Valley Folklore Society SONG & STORY SWAP.

Friday, June 8, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main St., Amherst, Mass.

Elizabeth FarsworthJune's guest performer, Elizabeth Farnsworth, sings songs with folk, Celtic, rock, and blues tinges that celebrate the earth's beauty, life's foibles, and everyday miracles.

She is a member of the Amandla Chorus, and has recently co-founded a duo with Jill Friedman called "Whish" that performs throughout the area.

Elizabeth revels in harmonies and the joy of getting whole roomfuls of people singing together.  Bring a clear, strong voice, as she is sure to encourage singing along.

The Song & Story Swap is an event where people of all ages gather to share stories and songs that may be traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell, sing, or lead everyone in singing, play an instrument or request a song or story.  Listeners are welcome, too.  Admission is free, with donations accepted.

The warm-up theme this month is The Moon.

The PVFS Song & Story Swap happens the 2ND FRIDAY of every month.  For information contact Paul Kaplan, (413)-253-9484 or Jeff Lee, (413)-256-0433 or visit http://www.filbert.com/pvfs.

Bill Domler Memorial Benefit Concert

Folk followers throughout the Northeast and beyond were saddened by the passing of Bill Domler on April 2 from injuries sustained in a fall at his printing business.  An energetic coffeehouse founder, concert producer, folk DJ and music promoter, Bill was a central figure in the Hartford-area folk scene for more than 25 years.

On Sunday, June 10, a memorial benefit concert organized by Bill's parents will be held at King Philip Middle School in West Hartford, CT.  Lui Collins, Tony Barrand & John Roberts, Nerissa Nields, Sally Rogers, Amy Gallatin, Priscilla Herdman, and Gideon Freudmann are among those who will be performing.  Call Len Domler at 860-632-7547, or see http://members.home.net/bshall/Folknote.htm for more information.

Pioneer Valley Songbag - June additions to the playlist

Pioneer Valley SongbagJune brings twenty more tracks uploaded to Pioneer Valley Songbag, our web radio station featuring forty years worth of music by Pioneer Valley artists.

Artists new to the playlist include Debra Cowan, Fiddle Hill, John Coster, Susannah Keith, Edith O, and Peter J. Newland.  The spirit of activism of the early eighties is recalled in a couple cuts from Bright Morning Star's Arisin' album.  From the PVFS tape archives are live recordings of Raintree, Lyn Hardy & Jay Ungar, and Dr. Horace Clarence Boyer.  We've also added covers of songs written by Paul Kaplan, Tex LaMountain and Cliff Eberhardt.

If your computer has an MP3 player and a 56Kb or faster internet connection you should be all set to tune in.  Just visit http://www.filbert.com/pvsongbag and click on the speaker icon.
