Dáithí Sproule will join July 8 Song & Story Swap

Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the July Pioneer Valley Folklore Society SONG & STORY SWAP.

Dáithí Sproule wll be at the Black Sheep in Amherst on July 8!

Friday, July 8, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main St., Amherst, Mass.

Guest performer this month will be the distinguished Irish guitar player, Dáithí Sproule.

Dáithí Sproule, a native of Derry in the North of Ireland, is a singer and guitarist and one of the premier accompanists in the Irish tradition. When he played with Skara Brae in the late 60's and early 70's, he was the first person to use and develop the DADGAD tuning in Irish music, a style now widely used in Irish and Celtic music in general. In addition to his guitar work, Dáithí is a lovely singer with a large repertoire of rare songs in both Irish and English. He is a member of the internationally renowned Irish band, Altan, with whom he has released a new CD called Local Ground, and he has recorded and performed with many of the great Irish musicians of the last thirty years. Nearer to home he plays with Randal Bays, with whom he has recorded a CD entitled Overland.

States the Rough Guide to Irish Music, “Dáithí Sproule is a seminal figure in Irish music.”

The warm-up theme this month is Blame.

The PVFS Song & Story Swap happens the 2ND FRIDAY of every month.  For information contact Paul Kaplan, (413)-253-9484 or Jeff Lee, (413)-256-0433 or visit http://www.filbert.com/pvfs.

There will be no Song & Story Swap held in August as we take a summer break.
