Doug Schmolze will join March 1 Song & Story Swap

Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the Pioneer Valley Folklore Society Song & Story Swap.

Saturday, March 1, 7:00 p.m. at the The Nacul Center, 592 Main St., Amherst, Mass (see map).

Guest performers for the event will be vocalist-guitarist Doug Schmolze.

Doug Schmolze will join March 1 Song & Story SwapDoug Schmolze, tenor and guitarist, studied guitar and composition at Boston's storied Berklee School of Music.  He has sung with the Pro Art Choral, the Lorien Ensemble, the Berkshire Bach Singers, Berkshire Choral Festival, Berkshire Opera, and the Cantilena Chamber Choir. He is the tenor section leader at the First Congregational Church in Stockbridge, MA and with the Crescendo Chorus of Lime Rock, CT. He sings regularly in churches as a choir member and as a soloist.

His repertoire includes art songs as diverse as those from the Brazilian Portuguese to German Lieder. Those of Schubert are his favorites. Doug is also a Certified Music Practitioner, trained in the Music for Healing and Transition Program. MHTP provides live music at the bedside for patients in hospital and Hospice. His repertoire of music for elders includes guitar music from Spain (also Flamenco) and Latin America as well as classics from the American songbook such as Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, and Rogers and Hammerstein.

The theme this month is Boom and Bust. Boom and Bust

The Song & Story Swap is open to the public, free of charge with donations accepted.  People of all ages gather to share stories and songs that are traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell, sing, or lead everyone in singing, or request a song or story.  Listeners are welcome.

Share the Fire will convene in Amherst March 28-30

LANES, the League for the Advancement of Storytelling in New England, will hold its 33rd annual Northeast Storytelling Conference called Sharing the Fire, March 28-30 at the UMass Hotel and Conference Center in Amherst. The event includes workshops, coaching sessions, story swaps and evening concerts.
