Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the December Pioneer Valley Folklore Society SONG & STORY SWAP.
Friday, December 8, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main St., Amherst, Mass.
Joining us will be Kelly Erwin and Warren Graham, a pair of enthusiastic group singers with a love of harmonies. Warren cultivated his clear, deep voice singing chanteys at Mystic Seaport, while Kelly enjoys joining folk singalong events such as the Pickin' and Singin' Gatherin' in Albany.
The Song & Story Swap is an event where people of all ages gather to share stories and songs that may be traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell, sing, or lead everyone in singing, play an instrument or request a song or story. Listeners are welcome, too. Admission is free, with donations accepted.
This month's suggested warm-up themes are the Weather or the Solstice.
The PVFS Song & Story Swap happens the 2ND FRIDAY of every month. For information contact Paul Kaplan, (413)-253-9484 or Jeff Lee, (413)-256-0433 or visit http://www.filbert.com/pvfs.
If you 're looking for an uplifting, joyful experience in the coming holiday season, you couldn't do better than Welcome Yule: A Mid-Winter Celebration. In its sixteenth year, and under the music directorship of Paul Kaplan, Welcome Yule brings together the talents of Pioneer Valley adults and children in song, dance, story-telling, a very silly mummers play, and the haunting Abbotts Bromley Horn Dance. The audience actively participates in the show, which brims with frivolity and good will. In this season of diminished light and holiday stresses, Welcome Yule offers refreshment for the spirit and an opportunity to rejoice. It's a great show for families. Spread the word! At the Shea Theater in Turners Falls, MA, Welcome Yule performances are Friday and Saturday, December 8 and 9, at 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, December 10, at 2:00. Tickets are $9 for adults, $6 for seniors and children, and are available at the World Eye Bookshop (Greenfield), the Jones Library (Amherst), and Boswell's Books (Shelburne Falls), or call the Shea at (413) 863-2281.
more winter-time celebrations in the area will feature popular folk
performers. The beautiful harmonies of Priscilla Herdman, Anne Hills
and Cindy Mangsen can be heard in their Voices of Winter concert at
the Unitarian Universalist Society Meetinghouse in Springfield on December
3 at 4:00 p.m. See http://www.concentric.net/~Edbethui/Voices.html
